I had a post a few months back about how great it feels when your peers find success in unique places, something that is simply fate bound and approved by "The Man Upstairs!" At any rate a good buddy of mine from Minnesota just hit his first Grand Slam. I meet Pat Brown back life guarding at a YMCA when I was 16. I remember sitting on breaks with this kid who was 15, in the pool office with 2 acoustic guitars just jamming away and singing tunes every week. Then I remember him saying, "Nick I'm not going to college." I was blown away. The kid was smart, and I thought he was throwing it all away. Within that year he started a band called "The Semester" and I remember going to a handful of his concerts at the local skatepark, where the crowd seemed to always grow and the mosh-pit got bigger and bigger every time. I bought one their very first shirts from his basement for $10, and have worn it ever since.
Well those days are gone, and with that new ones have brought Pat to a new high. The Semester broke up a year ago and Pat wanted to keep going, even after touring around in his parent's old mini-van across the states. Well Pat, looks like it's paid off. This kid formed a new band early this year called "Sing It Loud" and they sold under a lucky star and were just signed by Epitaph Records a few days ago. They've released an EP album and it's simply brilliant. The band is punk rock, but they are going to take this world by storm. Pat is the lead singer, and guitarist as well as composer of most the songs to this date. You can check them out at: http://www.myspace.com/singitloud and get their album on itunes!
Just shows that it's the road less traveled that can be the road best traveled. Pat says it best in his song called "No One Can Touch Us" when he says "We'll Take Over The World"...that's exactly what we'll do.
Congrats guys!! Remember us little people!!
Great post Nick!! Take the world head on!!
